Space is the universe in which a design exists, the area of a design that surrounds the main objects.
A line is any mark longer than it is wide. Line defines nearly all other elements in design because it determines were one object ends and another begins.
A shape is the basic outline of an object formed by a line (real or imaginary) and the area enclosed by that line. Shape can be formed with either positive or negative space.
The magic of value is in contrast between lights and darks. Designs cannot be successful without it.
Everything around us has a texture. Sometimes we can simulate those textures with paper, but more often the textures we create in our designs are visual rather than tactile. However, those visual textures can be just as provocative or full of meaning as actual textures we can touch.
Color is more than a combination of red and blue or yellow and black. It is non-verbal communication. Colors have symbolism and meanings that go beyond ink.
